Why my baby is crying through night

One of the most challenging aspects of having a newborn is sleep. It is not uncommon for parents to find themselves stressed and sleep deprived in the first year of their baby’s life.

Although at less than six months it is rare for a baby to sleep through the night, as they wake on average of 3 times or more during the night.

And it might not seem like it but babies sleep around 18 hours a day though they only sleep for a couple hours at a time.

Here are a few ways you can work towards helping your child make it through the night, resulting in less disrupted sleep for you and your partner.

1 Training your baby’s night-and-day cycle

It will take a couple months for your newborn to sync with more developed sleep patterns of waking and sleeping during a 24-hour day.

To help the development of night and day distinction make daytime feedings interactive and lively and keep nighttime feedings calm and soothing.

2 Bedtime Routine

A consistent bedtime routine will tremendously help in training your newborn that it is time to sleep. Avoid letting your baby falling asleep while feeding.

Otherwise, he or she will become adjust to this and the habit will move into mid-night feedings as well.

3 Let your baby fall asleep on their own

If a baby is used to falling asleep in your arms, he or she will rely on being rocked to sleep in the middle of the night as well.

Make it a practice to let your baby fall asleep on their own laying down in their cot. This will develop your baby’s ability to fall asleep on its own.

4 Nighttime Comfort

It is natural for a baby to wake in the middle of the night and for babies to cry upon waking. Make sure and share mid-night comforting your baby with your partner.

Dummies or pacifiers are helpful as the sucking action is soothing for young infants. Many times infants need help finding their dummy in the middle of the night, help them find it.

This will begin to train them to find it on their own and be able to fall back asleep without you or your partners help.

Babies often wake in the middle of the night because of teething pain. There are many remedies to soothe this pain.

One of the easy and natural solutions is the use of certified amber teething necklace, anklets or bracelet.

 5 Comforting Object

Give your child an object (blanket, stuffed animal, etc.) that you have kept around you for a while in order to infuse it with your scent.

Babies have a strong sense of smell, when they wake up in the middle of the night they will be comforted by the presence of your scent.

This will be helpful as they are falling back asleep on their own and crying less.

Remember to be patient as you are helping your baby develop better sleeping habits, it can take between 1 and 2 weeks for infant sleeping patterns to adjust to changes or adjustments.
